Gospel Q & A
Question: Some pastors say that when Christ returns, He will not come to the earth but will directly lift His chosen people up to the air to meet Him. Is this true?
Answer: In the New Testament, the topic of being taken up into the clouds to meet the Lord is only found in 1 Thessalonians.
After that, we who are still alive and are left will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And so we will be with the Lord forever. (1 Thessalonians 4:17)
This is Paul's letter. Paul, inspired by the Holy Spirit, definitely spoke the truth. However, people seem to misunderstand Paul's message. Because being taken up means being taken up into the clouds and meeting the Lord in the air, definitely not in heaven. If it were in heaven, it wouldn't say meeting in the clouds or the air.
However, those who are taken up are flesh and blood. If they were really to meet in the air, everyone would have to fly up to the sky with their physical bodies. This completely goes against the Laws of natural science and is totally impossible.
Some pastors say that they are taken up to the New Jerusalem, but there is no basis for this in the bible; it's merely speculation. If they were really taken up to the New Jerusalem, then the scripture wouldn't say being taken up into the clouds or the air but would say being taken up into the New Holy City.
